Smoky Mountains National Park by Cathy

Because my grandparents summered in Franklin, North Carolina, some of my earliest memories are of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Every summer and at least one Christmas, we made the long drive from Florida to Franklin.  Then, as soon as we arrived, my grandfather loaded us into his car to take us to see the sights. Although Great Smoky Mountains National Park is 522,427 acres divided … [Read more...] about Smoky Mountains National Park by Cathy

Grayson Highlands State Park by Cory and Lark

Cory:  Our last stop in Virginia was Grayson Highlands State Park.  Lots of people told Mom that we should go there because the park has wild ponies. Lark:  I didn’t see any wild ponies. Cory:  There’s a reason for that.  Remember how for the last seven months you have been telling everyone that you would kill a deer or a buffalo or even a bear?  How you are “one with the wolves”?  Mom … [Read more...] about Grayson Highlands State Park by Cory and Lark

Lynchburg, Virginia by Cory and Lark

Cory: We went to Lynchburg, Virginia to see our human brother and his lovely wife. Lark: Don’t forget their baby brat, Savannah. Cory: She’s okay, she’s a Chessie, but I prefer to be left alone. Lark: Grumpy old lady. Cory: Hush! Mom and Dad had a lot of fun with Tim and Miranda. Lark: I am really mad at them. Remember how I said I wanted Tim to take me rafting? Well, he took Mom and Dad … [Read more...] about Lynchburg, Virginia by Cory and Lark

Shenandoah National Park by Cory and Lark

Cory:  We went to Shenandoah National Park to see the Fall leaves. Lark:  Fall leaves are on the same level as looking at rocks.  Why do you want to watch leaves fall? Cory:  It is not that the leaves are falling, although they are.  It is the colors of the leaves that folks want to see.  The reds, golds, yellows, and browns.  So many varieties!  It looks like a watercolor … [Read more...] about Shenandoah National Park by Cory and Lark

New River Gorge National River by Lark and Cory

Lark:  Ok, I got out of time in and went with Dad and Mom on a hike so I think I should talk about the New River Gorge National River. Cory:  I was there too, but if it will make you happy go ahead.  Only thing, can I interrupt as much as you do? Lark:  Whatever.  The New River Gorge is near Fayetteville, West Virginia.  We heard a lot about it before we came because our human brother goes … [Read more...] about New River Gorge National River by Lark and Cory

Starstruck at the Cincinnati Zoo by Cathy

Ordinarily, I am not a fan of zoos.  I prefer to see wild animals in the wild.  However, I do understand the purpose of zoos:  To introduce animals to visitors that they would not get to see in the wild, conserve endangered species and encourage people to participate in those conservation efforts. For example, when zoo visitors see an orangutan, they also see signage asking them to consider … [Read more...] about Starstruck at the Cincinnati Zoo by Cathy
